Attendance
Why is Attendance so Important?
ATTENDANCE MATTERS
What's your child's Attendance? Are they missing out?
90%= missing half a day a week
= missing 100 lessons a year
= missing over a year of education in their school life
80%= missing 1 day a week
= missing nearly 200 lessons a year
= missing over 2 years of education in their school life
70%= missing 1.5 days a week
= missing nearly 300 lessons a year
= missing over 3 years of education in their school life
Please help your child reach their full potential by sending your child to School everyday.
Our attendance policy can be found on our policies page.
Everyone
We strive to follow our 3B ethos at Hillsborough Primary School. We believe in all our children. Our children belong to the Hillsborough school community. We aim to prepare our children so they can become anything they want to be.
We discuss attendance in our weekly assembly. We reward good school attendance on a half termly basis and use a collaborative approach to achieve class rewards. We reward individual progress and celebrate using termly certificates.
| Below 96% Attendance
Stage 1
This could indicate a concerning level of absence.
A stage 1 letter (identifying initial concerns) will be sent.
Parents/carers may be invited to a meeting to discuss attendance concerns.
External agency support may be identified.
| Below 90% Attendance
Stage 2
School will have serious concerns regarding attendance. Your child will be classed as PA (persistent absence).
Attendance will be monitored on a weekly basis (daily if necessary).
A stage 2 meeting invite will be issued and you will be invited to a meeting with a senior leader to discuss your child’s attendance. In the meeting we will explore barriers to your child’s attendance and will implement support to remove them.
If attendance declines further we will liaise with the Local Authority to discuss our concerns.
|
Stage 3
Attendance will be reviewed after the stage 2 monitoring period. If attendance has improved, we will continue to support and monitor.
If improvement has not been made or attendance has continued to decrease, a stage 3 letter and meeting invite will be issued. This meeting will be between school, parents/carers and the Local Authority. An attendance contract may be considered. Internal and external support will continue.
|
Stage 4
Attendance will be reviewed after the monitoring period. If there is improvement, we will continue to monitor and support until the child has achieved a satisfactory attendance figure.
If no improvement has been made or attendance has decreased, school will review the attendance contract and inform parents of the contract failing. School will review the support offered so far.
If all avenues have been exhausted and support is not working or there is non-engagement, the school will send a formal referral to Sheffield Attendance and Inclusion social work qualified for further intervention in line with Working Together to Improve School
