Religious Education (RE)

RELIGIOUS EDUCATION AT HILLSBOROUGH PRIMARY

At Hillsborough Primary School, we foster tolerance, respect and open-mindedness towards others through learning about different religions and worldviews. RE has a significant role in fostering our children’s spiritual, moral, social and cultural development.

Our curriculum:

- will develop children’s natural curiosity whilst encouraging them to believe in themselves to ask critical questions

- gives our children a better understanding of the society in which they belong to and that of the wider world

- values the importance of RE in the curriculum to support how children can become more confident in understanding religions

RE is taught from FS1 – Y6 using the Jigsaw RE scheme which is compliant with the Sheffield Agreed Syllabus. Our children study a range of religions including Christianity, Judaism and Islam.

Key elements explored in Jigsaw RE

  • Myself
  • Celebrations and Festivals
  • Stories of Jesus
  • Leaders and Inspirational People
  • Believing - beliefs and questions
  • What does it mean to belong?
  • Religion, family and community
  • The journey of life and death
  • Symbols and religious expression

The principle aim of Jigsaw RE is to engage pupils in an enquiry approach where they can develop an understanding and appreciation for the expression of beliefs, cultural practices and influence of principle religions and worldviews in the local, national and wider global community and how we can conserve them.

Our curriculum will provide children with the opportunities and experiences to investigate a range of religions and world views.

The RE lead is Mrs Kay.
